Meet Lisa, Founder of Toffieshop

Lisa, founder of Toffieshop is a young marketing professional from Ghana currently based in Austin (formerly Chicago-based). She runs Toffie in my spare time as a passion project. She loves the fact that it allows me to celebrate womanhood while sharing a long-standing African tradition with others and connecting with my personal heritage.

Lisa often get a lot of questions about the name: Toffie (pronounced tohΒ·fee, similar to "coffee"). Why name yourself after a candy? The term β€œtoffee” is symbolic of love and care. Growing up, she would ask her mom for candy: β€œMummy, can I have toffee please?”. The question was a vulnerable one that she didn’t ask often, yet, every time she asked, her mom would lovingly oblige.

There truly is so much depth to a mother’s love. It was the same love she expressed when she tied on my first real set of waist beads ten years ago. They were a lovely gift, and I still wear them every day, even after all these years.

About the Business

In honor of her mom's love, Toffie and its products are a dedication to the little girls we once were and a celebration of the women we have now become (see Collection). Their philosophy is to embody, distill, and share a genuine care with the world in a way that gets instilled in others and passed on.

They do this through the bestowing of waist beads. They truly believe every woman deserves to wrap herself in something beautiful, and so it is my personal mission to help demystify African waist beads and keep the tradition alive while supporting others (see Social Impact).

Toffieshop & Playback

Lisa was looking for an authentic and personal way to tell her story as well as answer frequently asked questions by her customers. Typical questions she would always get from customers are like:

  1. Why wear wasit beads?
  2. What color should I pick?
  3. What size should i wear?
  4. Who can wear waist beads?

Lisa decided to use Playback Interative Video format to answer the questions.

Playback's interactive video dashboard helps her get in-depth native analytics to understand her customers better and what kind of videos are performing well and increased the overall engagement on her website drastically.

Why brands should use Interactive Videos?

Interactive videos can provide a more engaging and personalized shopping experience compared to normal videos. Here are some reasons why interactive videos can be better for shopping:

  1. Engagement: Interactive videos capture the viewer's attention more effectively than traditional videos. Interactive elements like clickable hotspots, product links, and interactive overlays encourage viewers to actively participate in the shopping experience, making it more engaging and memorable.
  2. Personalization: Interactive videos can be customized to each viewer based on their preferences and behavior. For example, viewers can choose different product options, explore various features, or even receive personalized recommendations within the video. This personalization can lead to a more tailored shopping experience.
  3. Immediate Action: Interactive videos enable viewers to take immediate action while watching, such as adding items to their cart, making a purchase, or signing up for newsletters. This reduces friction in the buying process and increases conversion rates.
  4. Product Discovery: Interactive videos can showcase multiple products within a single video. Viewers can click on items they are interested in, allowing them to discover and explore different products without leaving the video, which can lead to more cross-selling and upselling opportunities.
  5. Information Accessibility: Interactive videos can provide in-depth product information within the video itself. Viewers can access specifications, pricing details, customer reviews, and other relevant information without navigating away from the video, which can improve their decision-making process.
  6. Enhanced Storytelling: Interactive videos allow brands to tell a more immersive and interactive story. They can guide viewers through a narrative that highlights the benefits and features of a product, creating a stronger emotional connection and brand loyalty.
  7. Data Collection: Interactive videos can collect valuable data about viewer behavior, preferences, and interactions. This data can be used to refine marketing strategies, improve product offerings, and optimize the shopping experience.
  8. Mobile-Friendly: With the increasing use of mobile devices for online shopping, interactive videos are well-suited for small screens and touch interfaces. Viewers can easily tap and interact with the content on their smartphones or tablets.
  9. Social Sharing: Interactive videos can be highly shareable on social media platforms. When viewers have an enjoyable and interactive shopping experience, they are more likely to share the content with their friends and followers, increasing brand visibility and reach.
  10. Competitive Advantage: Implementing interactive videos in your e-commerce strategy can set you apart from competitors who rely solely on traditional video content. It demonstrates innovation and a commitment to providing an exceptional shopping experience.

While interactive videos offer several advantages for shopping, it's important to note that they require additional resources for creation and maintenance. Additionally, their effectiveness may vary depending on the target audience and the specific products or services being marketed. Therefore, businesses should carefully assess their goals and audience before deciding whether interactive videos are the right choice for their e-commerce strategy.
